DJIA Closes Down 68 Pts, Led by Apple, Tesla; Nasdaq Slips ~1%

Retail sales in the US fell short of expectations with an increase of 0.4% in December despite easing concerns over US inflation. After experiencing a sharp rebound, the three major US stock indices opened higher but trended lower on Thursday. The DJIA closed down 68 points or 0.2% at 43,153. Led by declines in Apple (AAPL.US) and Tesla (TSLA.US), the Nasdaq fell 172 points or 0.9%, closing at 19,338. The S&P 500 closed 12 points or 0.2% lower at 5,937.

Tech stocks weakened with Apple collapsing 4% for the day. Tesla, which surged 8% yesterday, ultimately gave back nearly 3.4%. Nvidia (NVDA.US) dipped 1.9%, while Meta (META.US) waned 1%.
